What is Human Health Sciences?
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Health Sciences at UNCG prepares students for a wide range of health-related careers.
Choose from two tracks:
- Health Professions – Prepare to apply to professional programs in areas like physician assistant studies, medicine, dentistry, or physical therapy
- Allied Health Studies – Prepare for supportive roles in healthcare by minoring in areas like business management, human development and family studies, or gerontology
Gain hands-on experience, explore real-world health issues, and build a strong foundation in health sciences.

Why did you choose this major?
I want to make a positive impact on the community, help better people’s lives, and bridge the gap of care – especially when it comes to people of color and minorities.
Career Goals:
I would like to pursue pharmacy or genetic counseling.
Favorite Movie:
Pitch Perfect 2 – my mom and I love to watch it together.

Why did you choose this major?
I chose Human and Health Sciences because I believe the program is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about healthcare. The knowledge will help me provide the best care for my future patients.
Career Goals:
My career goals are to be a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

NIA BARKSDALE
Nia is one of the first Human Health Science students to be awarded the “Ruth Shumaker Jarvis & Clint Jarvis Scholarship
Why did you choose this major?
I chose the HHS major because I felt like it is where I belonged. I always wanted to work with within the medical field, but I couldn’t find the right major for me until HHS.I have had so much help and guidance being in the HHS major and that was a big relief to me especially being a first time university student.
